Trabzon defeat Bursa 1-0; regain lead in Super Lig title race

Trabzonspor today hosted Bursaspor in a game where they had to win if they wanted to regain their leadership in the Super Lig. The hero today was none other than Burak Yilmaz who also produced his heroics last week against Galatasaray in Istanbul when he scored the only goal of the game.

His goal today came at the bring of halftime in the 44th minute when he recieved a pass from Gustavo Coleman then dribbled his way into the 18 yard box and shot the ball low past the Bursa keeper.

The game produced a couple of more chances for Trabzon with the best one coming towards the end when Coleman sent captain Umut Bulut through on the left hand side and saw his shot deflected past the far post by the keeper.

Bursaspor didn't produce much magic but did hold Trabzon to only one goal away.

The win puts Trabzon back on top by 2 points ahead of Fenerbahce whoa re clipping at their heals in the title race.

Trabzon next play away at Burak Yilmaz's former side Eskisehirspor while Fenerbahce visit lowly Bucaspor.

With five weeks left in the season, the competition continues to heat up as the two sides are virtually in a head to head race with Bursaspor fifteen points behind second placed Fenerbahce. It would take Fenerbahce to lose the rest of their games and Bursa to win all of them for them to reach that position.

Once again there is a very exciting ending to the Turkish Super Lig this year and it will looks like it will be either a smooth or a bumpy ride for the top two sides.

Trabzonspor defeat Gala in Istanbul after 5 long years

Trabzonspor played away to Galatasaray at their new Aslantepe/Turk Telekom Arena behind closed doors with one goal on their minds: victory.

The day before Fenerbahce played away to Eskisehirspor knowing that if they won that game they would jump ahead of Trabzon into first place by one point with Trabzon having a game in hand. Trabzon however achieved the same amount of points Fener did to regain their leadership of the league and be ahead by two points.

Galatasaray needed the win after a very dissappointing loss at Antalyaspor (3-0) last week. The home side id actually play well but could not convert the chances they created. Trabzon however converted their one golden chance of the game.

With 8 minutes left to play in the game, Jackson "Jaja" Coelho had possession of the ball near the 18 yard box and brilliantly returned the ball to Burak Yilmaz to complete a give and go and Burak simply placed the ball past Gala keeper Marcelo Zapata. 1-0 Trabzon.

Gala were dropped to 10 men 9 minutes before the goal was scored when Kazim Richards deliberately stepped on the right foot of Trabzon right back Serkan Balci.

Galatasaray now sit in 14th place with only 33 points 28 games into the season. They are 9 points above the relegation zone.

Trabzonpor and Fenerbahce are in a hea dto head race to win the League title. They will not play one another in the league since they have already played twice with Trabzon winning the first match 3-2 at home and Fenerbahce prevailing in the second 2-0 in Istanbul.

Fenerbahce and Trabzon make Super Lig two legged race

First placed Fener and second placed Trabzon have puled away from third placed Bursa by seven points each after this weekend's Sport Toto Super Lig fixtures. Trabzonspor defeated Kasimpasa 1-0 at home thanks to an early goal by Jackson "Jaja" Coelho and Fenerbahce were victorious over Konyaspor 2-0 at home as well thanks to goals by M. Niang and Semih Senturk.

Elsewhere Bursaspor tied 1-1 at Karabukspor while Beiskta also tied 0-0 at Manisa. Galatasaray continued their dismal run with yet another defeat this time away at the nation's capital against Ankaragucu 3-2 thanks to a hat trick of goals by Stanislav Sestak. Galatsaray's goals were scored by Aydin Yilmaz and Juan Pablo Pino.

Fenerbahce are ahead of Trabzon by goal difference but both have 57 points and Bursa sit alone in third with 50.

Next Saturday the most important game of the season so far for Fener will be away at arch rivals Galatasaray. This game will be the very first time ever that they will play at Galatasaray's brand new stadium Aslantepe/Turk Telekom Arena. The home side will love to defeat their most hated rival in the first home derby in their new home and give their fans a special treat in doing so. However on the other hand Fenerbahce do not wish to have Trabzonspor breathing down their backs so victory is a must for them. This fixture will easily be seen as the game of the week for Super Lig followers

Besiktas exit in dreadful fashion from Europa League

After the additions of Ricardo Quaresma and Guti Hernandez over the summer, Besiktas showed their ambition for a European title. They went overboard when they shocked the world after signing Atletico Madrid captain Simao Sabrosa, Manuel Fernandez, and Portuguese international starting striker Hugo Almeida.

Reaching the Round of 32 in the Europa league and being matched up against a team that has not played a league game within the past three months in Dynamo Kiev, Besiktas thought that this would not be too hard. However, they were in for a disappointing surprise.

Besiktas were not allowed to play Simao Sabrosa this season in Europe since he already played with Atletico Madrid in the same competition earlier in the season. Last week in the first leg, Besiktas played a game that they will not wish to remember.

Dynamo Kiev went up 1-0 midway through the first half and number 7 fan favorite Ricardo "Q7" Quaresma scored an equalizer which gave the home side something to build on in the second half. However, the game went into the direction that Besiktas would only see in their worst nightmares.

Dyanamo Kiev scored 3 unsanswered goals in the second half to give themselves a 4-1 victory of the home side. To make matters worse, Besiktas goal scorer Q7 was ejected from the game after he received a red card.

The second leg was no better at all when they played in -18 degrees Celsius in the Ukrainian capital of Kiev. The home side thrashed their Turkish visitors 4-0 to give themselves an 8-1 aggregate victory which allows them to advance to the round of 16 of the competition.

The exit for Besiktas is not what they expected this early in the knock out stages but proves that adding new players to the team does not ensure success. The new guys need to learn how to play with the guys already on the team. Most of the players on Dyanamo Kiev are all international stars for the Ukraine. If Besiktas wish to be successful in the future, they need to show more urgency, heart, and passion on the field especially with the players of their caliber.
